Microfleece

Back to fabric types

Microfleece and Microchamois are a polyester fabric that is human-made.

Microfleece is a wicking fabric.  It does not absorb liquid.

Microchamois is an even softer version of microfleece.

It is a synthetic fabric made from recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate).

Due to being a polyester it is

  • light weight,
  • quick drying,
  • does not shrink
  • does not wrinkle
  • does not hold liquid
  • wicks wetness away from baby's skin

Uses - Inner part of nappy, liners.

Microfleece is a slim, lightweight fabric that is perfect for nappy making. It does not fray, so can be used as liners (laid in) your unlined nappies.  Just cut and go.

Microfleece, when used in nappies, should be used as the 'stay dry ' layer next to the skin. This is called wicking.  When you baby wets the nappy, the liquid will be wicked away from baby's skin into the absorbent layer beneath the microfleece.

It does not absorb liquid so cannot be used as the absorbent part of your nappies.

If you use two layers of microfleece together the combination will make the nappy repel liquid.  Two layers of microfleece should only ever be used on the outside of the nappy, not as the inner layer.
